OneHoop and Department of National Defence Launch Groundbreaking Conference to Drive Indigenous Reconciliation in Defence
OneHoop Indigenous Advisory Services is proud to announce the inaugural National Indigenous Defence Conference (NIDC), taking place on November 28, 2024, at the National War Museum in Ottawa, Ontario. This groundbreaking event, held in partnership with the Department of National Defence (DND), marks a significant step toward strengthening Indigenous Reconciliation in Canada’s Defence sector.
The theme for this year’s conference is "Strengthening Reconciliation in Defence," highlights a unique, Indigenous-led gathering of Indigenous professionals, Defence officials, industry leaders, and esteemed academics. This diverse assembly will come together to exchange ideas and advance reconciliation, exploring how the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the wider Defence community can integrate Indigenous perspectives, drive positive change, and foster a collaborative path toward meaningful reconciliation.
We are excited to announce that a distinguished lineup of special guests will be revealed in the coming weeks. This roster will include Indigenous leaders, industry professionals, academics, and senior CAF representatives, all contributing to a dynamic and impactful dialogue on Reconciliation in Defence.
Cadmus Delorme, CEO and Founder of OneHoop Indigenous Advisory Services, shared his thoughts on the event: "The National Indigenous Defence Conference marks a historic turning point, where we honor the rich history of Indigenous contributions to the Canadian Armed Forces and set a course for a future grounded in true Reconciliation. This conference is a call to action, a chance to break down barriers and forge new paths for collaboration based on mutual respect."
The #NIDC will include presentations, panels, and networking opportunities, focusing on the roles Indigenous play within the Defence sector, exploring strategies for increasing Indigenous representation in the CAF, and discussing ways to build more robust and collaborative relationships between Indigenous Nations and Defence institutions.
