Area
Community Identity and Storytelling
Date
September 2025
Context and Need
Piapot First Nation wanted to commemorate 150 years of adhesion to Treaty 4 with a community-focused event that focused on the prosperity and culture of Piapot First Nation. OneHoop supported Piapot First Nation by providing support on end-to-end event logistics and management, allowing community leaders more time to spend engaging directly with band members.
Our Approach and Solution
We worked directly with band members and Chief and Council to flesh out the vision of the Piapot 150 Treaty Event and to balance the agenda with both leadership and community ideas. The resulting Piapot 150 Treaty Event on September 9th, 2025, brought this vision to life by combining ceremony, commemoration, and celebration across a full day of programming.
The morning of the event brought Indigenous and non-Indigenous dignitaries across Saskatchewan, including Chiefs of several First Nations, FSIN, RCMP, and provincial and municipal public servants together to reflect on 150 years of treaty. The afternoon and evening were focused on celebration and learning, with departments of Piapot First Nation and Indigenous vendors encouraging band members to be actively engaged with their culture and rounded out with a series of concerts and a fireworks show.
Outcome
Band members strengthened their connection to community and culture within Piapot First Nation and across Saskatchewan, as well as providing education and entertainment to non-Indigenous event attendees and dignitaries to learn more about the rich culture and prosperity of Piapot First Nation.
